History

In 2006 a few creative Umoe Mandal employees launched the idea of serial production of glass fibre composite air pressure vessels (CAPV).

The development of the CAPV was initiated, and this was the start of a new business venture for Umoe Mandal.

In December 2007 the development project reached a major milestone, as Umoe Mandal received the DNV type approval certificate for composite pressure vessels for use as accumulator in riser tension systems. The first CAPVs were delivered in December the same year, for use in the riser tension system in a Maersk semisubmersible drilling rig.

January 1st 2008, the business area was organised as a subsidiary company to Umoe Mandal and Umoe Advanced Composites AS was founded.

In 2008 the development of wire & rope sheaves for use in heavy lifting systems was initiated.
A prototype was made and an extensive test programme has been performed in order to qualify the product according to DNV offshore standard OS-C501. The sheave concept is now pending type approval by DNV.

The development and qualification of a 320 bar CAPV for use in crane tension systems, resulted in a DNV type approval certificate in Desember 2009. A type approval for a 210 CAPV for use in crane tension systems was also obtained in December 2009.

But the story doesn’t stop here; we are continuously looking for ways to improve our products, and several new products are being developed.
